A type of infectious agent...

 

A virus is a small infectious agent that replicates only inside the living cells of other organisms. Viruses can infect all types of life forms, from animals and plants to microorganisms, including bacteria and archaea. A virus is made up of a capsid, envelope protein, and genetic material.

The two most common types of diseases in the U.S. today are caused by the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) and HIV viruses. HPV attacks the epidermis of humans and other organisms while HIV leads to AIDS, which destroys platelits.
